Menard County provides affordable Housing and does not maintain or operate any emergency housing units or programs. Applicants are selected in order of time and date of application with no preferences. A projected wait list time frame will be provided at the time of application. It is important to remember that these are estimates that can be affected by a number of factors and housing assistance is not guaranteed within the projected time frame provided at the time of application.
Applications generally take 3-4 weeks to process for final approval. Once an application has been approved, the applicant will be placed on the waiting list and contacted by MCHA staff as they approach the top of their designated lists. Menard County Housing Authority will provide initial estimate of wait list times. (Since waiting list status does not generally change on a weekly or even monthly basis, frequent and repeated requests for waiting list updates or status will not be provided)
It is not uncommon that the demand for housing assistance often exceeds resources available to local housing agencies, long waiting periods are common. In Fact, a PHA may close it’s waiting list when it has more families on the list than can be assisted in the near future.
MCHA has units in both Athens and Petersburg, IL. Applicants may use their application for any waiting list for which they qualify, provided that it is open at the time of application.
Applicants may apply for a specific wait list or multiple lists provided that they are open at the time of request. Additionally applicants may apply for both Section 8 and Public Housing programs provided that they are both open at the time of application.
